🚀 Exploring how worldwide tech trends manifest themselves in France
The startup ROI manifesto or Why you should subscribe to my newsletter
🚀 Launch Date: Tuesday, June 15 2021!
👋🏼 Hey There! If you’re reading this it means that either:
You are my Mom (Hi, Mom 💖!)
You are a friend, family member, or generally speaking within my social orbit
You troll Twitter for deep insights on international startups, global tech trends and have a particular interest in #FrenchTech
Whoever you are, THANK YOU! I’m incredibly grateful that you’ve added this newsletter to your list of ever-expanding subscriptions. I’m excited to share the world of tech entrepreneurship, macro-economic frameworks (this ain’t your average Econ 101, baby!), and some of the awesome innovation coming out of the country of wine & cheese. Oh, and memes — lots of memes!
What on earth qualifies me to write this? I’ll need to get back to you on that, but in the meantime, here’s a bit on me that may help explain how I got interested in this subject area in the first place…
🤓 I’ve worked at a total of 4 startups, two in the U.S. & two in Paris, France
☁️ I started my career at Salesforce, the OG of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)
Here’s a video of me winning the office talent show circa 2013:
💸 I have a Bachelors Degree in Economics (LOL)
This proves virtually nothing at all. In fact, I haven’t formally applied my degree following graduation. I was drawn to econ because of a passionate and engaging high school teacher and found a general knack for the subject. It wasn’t until I started reading/listening to content from Freakonomics and Malcom Gladwell that I understood the power of storytelling combined with subject matter expertise can be extremely powerful and entertaining. I consider myself fairly multi-disciplinary and hope to bring a range of perspectives to the newsletter.
🎙️ My Mom was a journalist so it’s gotta be in my DNA, right?
Not sure of the science behind epigenetics but my Mom really was a journalist for NPR for most of her career. Oddly enough, she also spent several years in her 20s living in Paris. So perhaps it’s my turn to pick up where she left off!
My Mom interviewing artist Cristo sometime in the 80s
It should also be noted that my maternal grandfather started a “cattle magazine” in Kansas. That’s a story for another time… But it must run in the family! 🐮
🌎 If you consider yourself global, informed and interested (writ large), you will enjoy this newsletter
I can’t guarantee that you will relate to every post (let alone every meme). But I can guarantee that I will fully immerse myself in each and every article. I’m a curious person. If you’re reading this, my guess is that you are too. I hope that this will evolve into something more than a one-way conversation. At some point maybe a dialogue (ahem, podcast) and even further down the line, a community of like-minded, international innovators! Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, but I’m just sayin’… you can get in at the ground floor here, AMIRITE!?
Oh, and one last thing: Startup ROI is a pun. See below. You’re welcome 😉
