A good friend of mine from college is moving to Paris in August. He’s been toying with the idea of a tech job abroad for almost two years and I’ve been his Parisian tech scene confidante. Yesterday, we jumped on a Zoom call to review the game plan for his arrival (paperwork, housing, healthcare, etc.) and upon entering the meeting he smirked and said I’m re-reading the very first Startup ROI post as a refresher!
I’m overjoyed that I’m adding an old friend to my Paris circle and delighted that I played a supporting role in making it happen. But perhaps most striking is the fact that this newsletter, now four years old, appears to “hold up” and serve a purpose beyond my original intent.
I’m a month late for my 4-year anniversary post. Anyone keeping track has probably noticed the gap between posts is growing ever wider. Nevertheless, this project has played a critical role in shaping the last four years of my life and career. I’m about to cross the 7-year mark in Paris. I currently serve as the Chief of Staff at a French unicorn. And in my free time (lol) I invest in weird and wild science and engineering projects aiming to put a dent in the universe. If you had asked me on the day I hit publish for the very first time where I’d end up in four years, never in my wildest dreams would it be here.
But alas, in the words of the terminally online: you can just do things.
